Sweet Home Alabama Liebe auf Umwegen 2002

She is `The' new designer of the fashion world, and the man of her dreams, Andrew Hennings has just proposed. Life is good; but there are a couple of things standing between her and the American dream. But the biggest obstacle is back home in Alabama, and before she can realize her dream she's going to have to resolve a few things from her past. Which means a trip back home to the place-- and the life-- she's worked so hard to get away from. But there's no getting around it; to move ahead with her new life she's going to have to open some closet doors and rattle some skeletons. So for Melanie, it's off to her old sweet home, Alabama, to visit the past she'd rather forget.

Melanie finds Jake at the beach planting lightning rods in the sand during a rainstorm to create more glass sculptures. She tells him they are still married, they return to what would have been Melanie and Andrew's reception, and finally, have their first dance as husband and wife. Oh well, she wants to marry her city love, Andrew Hennings. I'm no historian on the subject of the American Civil War, but, in spite of its flaws, I surrender to 'Sweet Home Alabama'because of the charm of Reese Witherspoon.

As Melanie, however, she comes across as too self-absorbed to be likable, and there's a scene in which she's had a bit too much to drink that, as they say, shows her (Melanie's) true colors. She has too much of an edge to evoke any empathy, and overall, her performance isn't that convincing. She gets the `hard' side of Melanie right, but when she goes for `soft' it translates to pretentious and lacks the realism that would make it believable.

I thought Legally Blonde was a lightweight vehicle for Reese Witherspoon but this one...WOW! As lousy as I thought this script is the one thing that I thought really hurt this movie is I didn't think Witherspoon and Josh Lucas had any real chemistry. Don't get me wrong, I think they're both fine actors but they look like two total strangers when on screen together.

Celebrity-Inspired Romantic Spots in Georgia

"I don't know why we thought that was really funny," Tennant said. The ending of "Sweet Home Alabama" puts you in a good mood as Melanie finally realizes that Jake is her true love. "I don't know why we thought that was really funny," director Andy Tennant told Insider. Set in the Northwest Georgia town of Rome, Oak Hill is the former home of Martha Berry which is located on the campus of Berry College. Built in the 1880s in the Greek Revival style, Berry lived much of her life in the home before and after founding the school. The big houses Melanie drives past on her way into her town are in Eufala, Alabama, including the Shorter Mansion.

But before we discuss them in detail, here is a fun fact about ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ for you – it was the first film that was given permission to shoot in NYC following the unfortunate September 11 attacks of 2001. I found Sweet Home Alabama to be a very sweet romantic comedy, Reese Witherspoon was just so adorable in this film. I wanted to see Sweet Home Alabama because I love Reese and remember hearing so much about it when it was released. So, of course, I figured now would be a good time to rent it and find out what this movie was about. Over all, I'd say it was a bit over rated, but still a watchable romantic comedy. In the last scenes, we see a more sentimental Jake, who still loves Melanie and is hurt that she's going to get married (dude, it's been 7 years without you guys talking to each other).

To be fair, though, the problems began before Tennant ever came on board, and it falls directly on writers Douglas J. Eboch and C. Jay Cox , who cranked out a story/screenplay that is decidedly uninspired and lacks any semblance of originality whatsoever. The DVD is fine but the picture is not "reference" quality. The sound is Dolby 5.1 but surround channels are not very dynamic.

There is not one sympathetic character in the movie and the predictable script and story line is akin to hitting yourself repeatedly over the head with a rubber mallet. Classic old school romantic comedies at least had the decency to make the other man a git, or at least plotting or not wanting to marry her themselves. I would comment on the blatant racist north America south America overtones but I don't really know enough about this to comment. Not bad acting performances from all the cast despite the script and plot.

What Happens When Lightning Strikes Sand Like In Sweet Home Alabama

And when Melanie and Jake arrive they dance to, you guessed it, "Sweet Home Alabama." Melanie realises she didn't sign the divorce papers at the altar so she is still married to Jake. Reese Witherspoon is a hot shot New York Fashion Designer, who has ran away from her past and built a new life for herself, and is about to marry the most eligible bachelor in the City. The Problem is, she is already married and has to return to Alabama to finalise her divorce. In `Election' and especially in `Legally Blonde,' Reese Witherspoon is a charismatic, forceful presence on the screen.

Intimidated by the city and her success, he returned home to make something of himself first. She and Jake have a heart-to-heart, and Melanie realises why he never signed their divorce papers. Some no longer exist or were created for the movie, so they’ve been left out. For more information on Sweet Home Alabama filming locations, visit Chris Credendino’s website. During the film's original outdoor reception Jake carries Melanie, who feigns death after having supposedly been struck by a lightening bolt, towards the wedding guests. Jake announces, "Melanie Carmichael is dead" but then a few seconds later he says, "Long live Felony Melanie." Jake and Melanie do this as a practical joke.

Kirsten Dunst is only just around the corner, though... This film had good intentions I guess, but it didn't really come off that way to me. This film is about a woman who is about to marry a nice guy politician from New York but has to go home and divorce her ex-husband who refuses to sign the papers. The films general message is that success and being rich in life aren't important, having babies, cooking, getting drunk and pottering about doing not much is what life's about. I'm not so arrogant as to say it's a wrong message, I am a lazy person, it agrees with me! But the problem starts with the fact you are supposed to love this up herself girl who comes back and insults her former friends and you just don't find that happening.

In addition to the namesake equestrian park, the facility includes a lakeside beach, children's pool, slides, tennis courts and walking trails. Located on the campus of Berry College, Oak Hill was the home of school founder Martha Berry. In "Sweet Home Alabama," the mansion was used as the Carmichael Plantation, where Melanie is supposed to get married. The Greek Revival manor housed Union soldiers during the Civil War. The Martha Berry Museum opened in 1972 and features paintings of notable Americans as well as artifacts from the Berry family.
